Mary Winslow was born in New York but raised in Georgia. She finished her BA in History and Germanic languages at the University of Georgia and moved to the West Coast in the mid-1980's. In Oregon, she studied poetry with poet John Haislip at the University of Oregon and received her MA in 1991. She later went to the Harvard Graduate School of Education where she studied folklore, mythology, oral poetry, and education. She has taught English at universities throughout the United States and in Russia. She translates poetry in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish and Russian. She is the author of a self-published chapbook, The Dungeness Crabs at Dusk, and co-author of a second chapbook, Dea Tacita, written with her late husband, poet Jeff Stier. Her poems have been published in journals and ezines including The Road Not Taken, Antigonish Review, Switch Poetry Journal, Advocet, and many others.
